About the event
"Te Llevaré"/ "I Will Take You", a show of 10 large scale artworks plus drawings by Maya Englehardt-Lorenzana. Through forgotten and found history the pieces explore the flux of emotions that follow a sudden break; the fresh air of freedom, and the weight of grief that comes with it. Through light and shadow, peaks and valleys, abstract and tethered, Maya explores ancestry, time, loss, love, and freedom. Who/what do we carry with us; in our nose, our speech, our hair. "Te Llevaré" as a way to take everyone with us, those gone in spirit and those still with us.
These core pieces are supported by the art of Nicole Angamarca, a NY-based Ecuadorian illustrator who bends folktale, identity, and color into beautiful bending pieces.
Raised around record stores and club parties, music is an essential part of Maya's work, and an appropriate way to mirror the freedom found through the artworks.
6-8 @_uma_dj opens us up with 2 hours of groove and rhythm. The NYC-born DJ raised on international dance floors channels deep house, dub, and disco with an old-school soul and future-forward spirit.
8-12 Francis Englehardt brings DJ magic - from the dance floor to space. As co-founder of Brooklyn's Dope Jams, Francis became a force in underground dance music, fusing dark techno, groove-heavy house, and genre-defying soundscapes. Now based in upstate New York, he continues to push boundaries with his Shake the Demons mix series, weaving everything from jungle to post-punk into raw, personal sonic journeys. Always ready to shake floors and minds, Francis brings a sound that begins at the dance floor and brings us to the beyond.
Bring memories, energy, & dancing shoes :) No cover/ticket charge!
